Bed bugs are reared for use by canine detection teams.  The bugs are shipped in vials and unless otherwise contracted will be a mixture of nymphs and adults.  Bugs have been fed prior to shipping. Click here  or go to the column on the left.

 Scruffy Says: I'm ready for my second lesson today.  Yes, there are bed bugs in those vials. I can smell them!  In the picture below, bed bugs were under the dust ruffle of a chair -- they were out of view for my handler, but I could smell them!

Upholstered chair. Dust ruffle removed to show recently molted bed bug 5th instar nymph and shed skin, younger nymph and shed skin, eggs and egg shells, dark digested blood feces, and pale nitrogenous waste spots. Hatched eggs have operculum open or missing.

Lou works on bed bugs in this box.  Two glass planters each with a 7 1/2 inch diameter and 3 inch height.  The plastic box is around 6 inches high, 16 inches long and 12 inches wide.  I use small paintbrushes to handle and move bugs from one container to another and forceps to move folded papers from one vial to another.  Checkerboard ruler has 1 centimeter squares.  No long sleeve shirts. Only short sleeve T-shirts are worn.

Basic plan. Sturdy plastic box with lid. Inside are glass planters.  Active vials and jars are retained in the planters.
